Danny Mills has lauded Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, per Football Insider.
What’s he said?
The Argentina international sealed a loan move to Spurs in the summer from Real Betis and has thus far made just two starts for the club, due to injury issues.
He scored his first goal against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League and also started the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United in the Premier League.
And Mills has been impressed with the glimpses he has seen of the playmaker.
He said: “Technically, he’s very, very good, sound on the ball. You can tell he’s quality, a quality player.
“He could keep his place but he’s going to have to do it pretty much every game from now until the end of the season. He didn’t do anything spectacular (in his last outing) but that was probably down to Sheffield United. They didn’t really allow Tottenham too much time or space.”
See his worth
It makes sense to keep picking Lo Celso.
Reports in Spain over the weekend claimed that Spurs could have the option to snap him up on a permanent basis in January for a lower price than they would have to pay in the summer.
And if Spurs are to get a fair judgement of the player, he needs to be in the team.
Thus, keeping him in the XI and allowing him to play alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli will allow those within the club to decide whether or not they should be triggering the option to finalise the move.
There is no point in leaving him on the bench, as Spurs run the risk of him falling behind his team-mates, especially given that he has already missed out on minutes through injury in 2019/20.
If Mills is right, and he really is “quality”, then it is a no-brainer to make him one of the first names on the teamsheet.
