Ademola Lookman might be a gamble worth taking on Sunday when Everton face their crosstown-rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will indeed be a tough team to crack at home and after Wednesday’s Champions League defeat, the Reds will definitely be looking to make amends in a match as important as this.
But for Marco Silva to really test the strong Liverpool defence, he might have to place his trust in the 21-year-old Lookman, because of his flair and creativity.
The manager has yet to start Lookman in any league matches so far this season and has fancied the partnership of new man Bernard and Theo Walcott on the wings.
The experience of someone like Walcott can however not be doubted and in an encounter as big as Sunday’s, the first thought would be to stick with the current set of players, especially with the good run that the Toffees are experiencing currently.
But at the same time, one really has to think how it would be possible for the likes of Walcott and Bernard to really trouble Liverpool or put their defenders under any sort of worthy pressure.
The likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson in the middle and Richarlison upfront might be the only hope Evertonians have of seeing their team pull off a miracle.
That hope could, therefore, be improved if Silva opts for Lookman and give Klopp and his players something to think about ahead of the match.
In the few matches that the winger has been on the pitch this season he has shown immense talent and an unbelievable set of skills.
It was especially against Chelsea a fortnight ago where Lookman looked dangerous when running at the Blues defenders, using his feet to success to outsmart the likes of N’Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta, while last weekend he was superb when he came on against Cardiff City and was he unlucky not to have found the back of the net.
