19th May 2012 will go down in history as the greatest day for Chelsea Football Club.
Chelsea didn’t play at their best but an unbelievable effort, a little bit of luck, and some outstanding performances mean we can FINALLY say the UEFA Champions League 2012 is coming to Stamford Bridge!
Ratings:
CHELSEA
Cech = 9 – Perhaps could have done better with Muller’s goal but more than made up for it with the Robben penalty save and his heroics in the shoot-out.
Bosingwa = 6 – Often caught out of position and would have been in trouble in Ribery had actually turned up.
Cahill = 8 – Superb. Considering the injury he restricted Gomez to one very good opportunity.
Luiz = 7 – Another valient effort considering the injury, was caught out by Muller once or twice.
Cole = 7 – Insisted on showing Robben inside and would have been in trouble if Robben had brought his shooting boots. At fault for Muller’s goal. Great penalty.
Mikel = 8 – My man of the match. Looked calm and composed on the ball and rarely gave it away.
Lampard = 8 – True captains performance. Defended brilliantly, had the energy of a 20 year old. Fantastic penalty.
Mata = 6 – A few good touches but the defensive style doesn’t really suit him.
Kalou = 6 – A few good early touches and runs. Got back into defensive positions but rarely defended well.
Drogba = 8 – Quiet and disappointing for 85mins but does what he does best. Scored the equaliser and deciding penalty. A true Chelsea legend.
Bertrand = 7 – Eyebrows raised but performed like an experience professional.
Subs:
Malouda = 6 – Didn’t really see alot of him when he came on.
Torres = 7 – His fresh legs, pace and meaningful runs caused Bayern problems. Won the corner which lead to the equaliser.
BAYERN
Neuer = 6 – Should have done better with Drogba’s header. Disappointing in penalty shoot-out.
Lahm = 6 – Didn’t have to do much defending but offered very little going forward.
Boateng = 6 – Rarely threatened but kept Drogba quiet from open play.
Tymoshchuk = 6 – Didn’t look out of place at centre back.
Contento = 6 – Very much the same as Lahm.
Schweinsteiger = 6 – Very quiet. Missed crucial penalty.
Kroos = 7 – Effected the game with good passing from a deeper role.
Muller = 7 – Took goal well. Otherwise pretty quiet and didn’t cause Chelsea to many problems.
Robben = 7 – Missed penalty. Tried to do too much.
Ribery = 6 – Did he get off the coach? He was against a poor RB in Bosingwa and rarely beat him.
Gomez = 6 – His goal scoring record suggests he is world class but perhaps he showed last night why Europe’s top clubs are after him.
Subs:
Van Buyten = 5 – Didn’t sure the team up. The manager made the change too early after the goal.
Olic = 5 – Last game for Bayern, but not one to remember. Decided to cross when a shot would have been better. Missed penalty.
